Make collapsible_if recognize the let_chains feature (#14481)
Until `if let` chains are stabilized, we do not collapse them together
or with other `if` expressions unless the `let_chains` feature is
enabled. This is the case for example in Clippy sources.

This was made possible by converting the `collapsible_if` to a late lint
to get access to the set of enabled features. This allows this PR to
supersede #14455 and no longer require an additional configuration
option.

The three commits are, in order:
- a conversion of the existing early lint to a late lint, with no new
feature or tests changes
- the addition of the `let_chains` feature detection and action, and
tests
- the application of the enhanced lint to Clippy sources (136 files
modified)

changelog: [`collapsible_if`]: recognize the rust compiler `let_chains`
feature

01820a9efe Do not make incomplete or invalid suggestions
The `unnecessary_filter_map` and `unnecessary_find_map` lints were
making partial suggestions, proposing to replace the whole expression by
only the method name, or a subexpression which contained explicit
placeholders.

Since even `MaybeIncorrect` suggestions must generate code that
compiles, this changes those lints to recommandation lints with no
code suggestion.

fix: filter_map_bool_then suggest wrongly when the closure cannot be decompose directly (#14370)
Closes #11617
Closes #14368

Clippy gives wrong suggestions when the filter and then cannot be put
into closure directly. Since trying to transform these can be too
complicated, Clippy will simply warn but don't try to fix.

b23fcb0147 fix: bad indent in doc comments
Sometimes, in doc comments, there are 3 spaces + 1 instead of 4 spaces + 1.
To make it coherent with the rest of the clippy codebase, I `fd -t f -X sed -E -i 's,/// (\S),/// \1,g'` and manually verified and fixed the relevant part of code that had bad indentation.

.last() to .next_back() requires a mutable receiver (#14140)
In the case where `iter` is a `DoubleEndedIterator`, replacing a call to
`iter.last()` (which consumes `iter`) by `iter.next_back()` (which
requires a mutable reference to `iter`) cannot be done when `iter` is a
non-mutable binding which is not a mutable reference. When possible, a
local immutable binding is made into a mutable one.

Also, the applicability is switched to `MaybeIncorrect` and a note is
added to the output when the element types have a significant drop,
because the drop order will potentially be modified because
`.next_back()` does not consume the iterator nor the elements before the
last one.

Fix #14139

changelog: [`double_ended_iterator_last`]: do not trigger on
non-reference immutable receiver, and warn about possible drop order
change
2025-02-19 09:05:46 +00:00
Samuel Tardieu
dcd643a652 double_ended_iterator_last: note when drop order is changed
`iter.last()` will drop all elements of `iter` in order, while
`iter.next_back()` will drop the non-last elements of `iter` when
`iter` goes out of scope since `.next_back()` does not consume its
argument.

When the transformation proposed by `double_ended_iterator_last` would
concern an iterator whose element type has a significant drop, a note is
added to warn about the possible drop order change, and the suggestion
is switched from `MachineApplicable` to `MaybeIncorrect`.

91481e3bcf Overhaul the intravisit::Map trait.
First of all, note that `Map` has three different relevant meanings.
- The `intravisit::Map` trait.
- The `map::Map` struct.
- The `NestedFilter::Map` associated type.

The `intravisit::Map` trait is impl'd twice.
- For `!`, where the methods are all unreachable.
- For `map::Map`, which gets HIR stuff from the `TyCtxt`.

As part of getting rid of `map::Map`, this commit changes `impl
intravisit::Map for map::Map` to `impl intravisit::Map for TyCtxt`. It's
fairly straightforward except various things are renamed, because the
existing names would no longer have made sense.

- `trait intravisit::Map` becomes `trait intravisit::HirTyCtxt`, so named
  because it gets some HIR stuff from a `TyCtxt`.
- `NestedFilter::Map` assoc type becomes `NestedFilter::MaybeTyCtxt`,
  because it's always `!` or `TyCtxt`.
- `Visitor::nested_visit_map` becomes `Visitor::maybe_tcx`.

I deliberately made the new trait and associated type names different to
avoid the old `type Map: Map` situation, which I found confusing. We now
have `type MaybeTyCtxt: HirTyCtxt`.

8cf9eea5b3 Move some Map methods onto TyCtxt.
The end goal is to eliminate `Map` altogether.

I added a `hir_` prefix to all of them, that seemed simplest. The
exceptions are `module_items` which became `hir_module_free_items` because
there was already a `hir_module_items`, and `items` which became
`hir_free_items` for consistency with `hir_module_free_items`.
